Expanding the possibilities
For over 50 years now, Ethiopians have proven themselves successful in long distance and cross-country running. Having produced numerous gold medalists in both women and men's competition.
Although snow doesn't particularly exist in the mountainous regions inhabited by Ethiopians, that doesn't mean there cannot exist a winter athlete in the highest level of competition. Robel Teklemariam has proven this to be true. His determination carried him all the way to the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy. And he's on his way for a return to the Olympics in Vancouver, BC.
ESA's immediate goal is to support Ethiopia Ski Team's sole athlete during the 2009-2010 winter season, ensuring he makes it to the Winter Olympics in Vancouver. This is being made possible by the generous support of individuals and groups worldwide. Beyond Vancouver, our long term goals will require this continued support to aid us in fulfilling our promise to groom and organize events for young Ethiopian skiers.
